Blue Room
It’s about time
I’m taking a shine to some memories
running through these days
Because I haven’t really thought about that place
Some lucky strike, the feeling it’s mine
climbing up the stairs
Higher and higher we went
and he asked me would you like to live here?
In that big room the floor was wooden
and century stained
Something about that place
I knew exactly what colour the floor should be
It had to be blue, had some lovers there too
And the long golden curtains
were like something from the Brontës
or a sonnet by the girl with the bonnet
There by Glasgow’s perfect Hillstreet view
I took myself out of my shell
As we ran down to Sleazy’s and sang
some basement blues
In that blue room something happened
Found a woman drawing patterns through the tears
Shaping the world as comfortably strange
As I let Nick sing Five Leaves Left
And I blew the past with you away to far lands
Little did we know it came back with bigger plans
Who am I now
compared to her then?
When it’s all just a tale in our head
that we can tell anywhere
In my blue room something drew them
made us close in for the evening
The more we share, the less we care
while the big world looms
There by Glasgow’s perfect Hillstreet view
I took myself out of my shell
There on Glasgow’s hill
